You always have been an outcast, living on the fringes of society. You scraped by in the slums of the Outer Rings, the most remote frontier of the galaxy, until Xeic appeared. He offered you a hand and a way out, giving you a place aboard his cargo ship. Since then, you have worked alongside him, hauling cargo of dubious origin and asking as few questions as possible.

Everything was going well—until you accepted a job from Mr. Sobota, the most influential crime lord in the Outer Rings. A job that promised fortune.

A promise that was not fulfilled.

Now you are in debt to Mr. Sobota. And the way to settle the debt... is you.

Astrayed—from astra (star) and strayedis a solo gamebook designed to emulate the freedom of action typically found in tabletop role-playing games and to provide an immersive experience of survival, exploration, and meaningful decision-making.

The game is built around a simple point-management system that requires no dice and rewards players for making decisions that align with their character’s strengths and weaknesses. Forcing the character to act outside their area of expertise makes them vulnerable and puts the player at a disadvantage.

The full game, still in development, consists of around 1,000 text sections, offering an approximately four-hour experience built around:

  • Minimal setup: simple rules, perfect for spontaneous sessions or when time is limited. All you need to play is a pencil.
  • Breadth over length: multiple paths to victory allowing each player to decide their own approach.
  • High agency: short text sections ensure that the player character never acts without the player's consent.
  • No randomness: the dice-free system eliminates frustrating situations caused by sheer bad luck. The course of the game is a direct consequence of the player's decisions.
  • Non-restrictive item usage: players can freely experiment with items and use them in any location.
  • Neutral PC: the player character is described minimally, allowing players to fully shape it through their preferences and choices.
  • Dynamic world: time passes. Locations evolve. The world responds to the player's decisions.
